Applying for a Master's degree in the UK as an international student in 2023

Master's programmes provide high-quality postgraduate education with a possibility of subsequent employment in England on Graduate Visa for 2 years. The duration of master's studies is 1 year. International students can apply for a postgraduate degree either immediately after completing a bachelor’s degree or later in their career. Master's programmes are divided into taught and research courses.

A Master's degree in England involves studying 15-20 disciplines during 1 year of full-time study. At the end students are awarded an academic degree depending on the chosen specialisation.

Application process for Master's degree

In order to apply for a Master's programme International students will need:

  • A completed Bachelor's degree
  • IELTS exam with the score over 6,5
  • Personal statement
  • Reference from the employer or current university

Accommodation for postgraduate students

All universities offer accommodation for master's students in dormitories solely designed for postgraduate students. Well-equipped, modern residences are located close to teaching buildings, the library and the rest of the university infrastructure. Students live in single rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Dormitories have their own dining halls, laundry, library and social rooms. All student residencies have 24/7 security service.

New visa rules for postgraduate students from 1 January 2024

From 1 January 2024 international postgraduate students in the UK will no longer be able to bring dependants on their Student visa, unless they are studying a postgraduate research programme.
