School Description and Academics
Lancing College is a prestigious academically selective coeducational school situated in the south coast of England, with easy access to London. The school was founded in 1848 and at the moment has 620 pupils. The main ethos of the school is to help each pupil thrive academically and all pupils are encouraged to think independently.
Year on year Lancing College pupils consistently achieve strong academic results in both GCSE and A level exams. In 2020 50% of pupils received grades A/A* at A level whiсh is one of the highest results in the country. With these results pupils secure offers from the top UK universities such, Oxford, Cambridge, UCL as well as major medical schools.
Lancing College actively encourages proactive approach to learning and intellectiua curiosity. Pupils learn in small classes of 18-20 students in the friendly and calm environment of mutual respect between teachers and students. The pupils have access to modern, well-equipped science laboratories, to the wonderful art and design centre with stunning views of the coast and the schools own theatre which is used for school productions.
School library is exceptionally well-stocked and is open to pupils 7
days a week. Many pupils use it to do their homework and for group
studies and projects as it mainly operates under strict silence rules.
School has its own equestrian centre and a farm which are extremely popular among the pupils and gives a unique opportunity to future veterinary students to gain invaluable practical experience.
Sports and Extracurricular
Sport is an important part of the school life at Lancing and it is for
everyone, no matter the level. Football, hockey, cricket, netball and
tennis are the main school sports but pupils can choose from more than
10 other sports on offer. The school has a 25m swimming pool and all
pupils are welcome to use it during the week and on weekends. Sports are
played all year around on expansive grass fields and astroturf pitches.
Music at Lancing is unrivalled and the school offers a wealth of
opportunities including orchestras, choirs, a cappella club, Big Band,
rock music workshops, conducting classes, improvisation workshops,
composition lessons and a full programme of chamber music coaching.
Young musicians have plenty of chance to perform at more than 30
concerts a year. Drama is very popular at Lancing with pupils putting on
dozens of events and productions each year with many taking drama for A
levels.
