Applying for an Architecture degree in the UK

To apply for an Architecture course in England, all universities, without exception, require applicants to submit a creative portfolio that showcases their skills, creativity and individuality. For this reason, most applicants complete Foundation courses in Art and Design before applying. One of the main goals of these preparatory courses is to develop and create a portfolio, as well as to learn how to present it to the admissions committee. The duration of Foundation courses ranges from 6 to 12 months, with start dates available in September and January.

In addition to the creative portfolio, all applicants must submit:

  • A secondary school diploma translated into English.
  • An English language proficiency test. An IELTS certificate with a minimum score of 6.0 (at least 5.0 in each module).
  • A letter of recommendation from school or work.
  • A personal statement.
